From 29 February to 2 March 2012 on the basis of the winery Kolonist in Krynychne village of Bolgrad district of Odessa region was held a master class on pruning the vine. The master class was conducted by Granger Eric (Eric Grangerou), – winemaker from Bordeaux (France). Dynasty Granger highly respected in the wine business – great-grandfather, grandfather and father Eric from 1904 to 1996 created a great wine in one of the most famous wineries in the world with the magical name of Chateau Margaux.
Dream of Erica was producing its own wine. He started with 60 acres, located near the vineyards of Chateau Margaux. Then Eric purchased a Prime plot in the Haut-Médoc, and vineyards with total area of 9 hectares began to move to the heights in the art of winemaking.
In 2006, Eric Granger was recognized as a "Champion of Bordeaux" by the prestigious wine magazine in France, "La Revue du vin de France".
In the framework of the master class Eric along with his wife Marie-Christine shared their experience in pruning vineyards with vines forming method Guyot with growers in the Danube Bessarabia. The French specialists gave a number of consultations on repair of the vineyards and their planting.
the master class was attended by representatives of the wine-growing regions of Ukraine: Crimea, Kherson and Odessa regions. Meeting winemakers has once again confirmed that to move forward you need to work together.
the French experts came to the conclusion that the Danube Bessarabia is a great region with excellent terroir for growing European grapes such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer. Of course, not without criticism: the appearance of vineyards on the road Odessa-Reni aroused the French of consultants with many questions. They were surprised by the fact that even young vineyards are in poor condition, and look very exhausted.
After consultation Colonist plans to move to denser planting of vineyards. The main reason is the reduction of the load on a Bush, extending the life of the vines, encouraging the bushes to the extraction of mineral substances from the deeper soil layers. In France, 30-40-year-old vines yield grapes of high quality, living up to 60 years and some up to 100 years or more and are a treasure for manufacturer and joy for wine lovers.
French consultants noted the high quality of wines of TM "Kolonist" and especially the wines of the 2011 harvest. The wines of this year has led them into raptures, and approved, in the belief that with proper, comprehensive approach, which includes viticulture, and winemaking, soon TM "Colonist" could become the visiting card of Ukraine in the European wine market.
