Magnum Opus Odesa Black Magnum 1,5L dry aged red category
Created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kolonist Winery, Magnum Opus is a flagship wine made from the iconic Ukrainian grape variety Odesa black. Aged for two years in custom-made French oak barriques, this wine represents the pinnacle of the winery’s craftsmanship and philosophy.
Ivan Plachkov, founder of Kolonist Winery:
“My greatest achievement as a winemaker is the Odesa Black wine. It is nothing other than my Magnum Opus. That is how the name Magnum Opus came about, which in Latin means ‘the greatest and most important work of a lifetime’ — Odesa Black. This wine is a symbol of our journey.”
Made exclusively from Odesa Black, a grape variety developed in Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century, this wine is a truly local expression of Ukrainian identity in winemaking.
Taste: rich, full-bodied, with notes of oak aging and a long finish of red and black berries
Aroma: notes of mulberry, black berries, hints of smoke and oaky vanilla
The potential of aging in the bottle: 4–5 years from the bottling date
Serving temperature: +16 to +18 °C
The best form of glass for this wine: tulip-shaped (450–700 ml)

Magnum Opus is not just a wine.
It is a twenty-year journey.
Two years of silence in French oak.
Thousands of decisions. Doubts. Faith.
The name was born simply.
Ivan Plachkov said:
“This is my life’s work as a winemaker. My Magnum Opus.”
And so it is.
Magnum Opus Odesa Black Kolonist wine, created especially to mark the 20th anniversary of Kolonist Winery in 2025. Magnum Opus comes from Latin and means “a great work, the greatest and most important achievement.”
From Bessarabia to the World
We did not look for easy paths.
We did not create blends for mass appeal.
We set out to build a country’s brand.
Odesa Black found its voice in London and Bordeaux.
It appeared on shelves, on wine lists, in the world’s wine atlases.
And each time it said the same thing:
Ukrainian wine has character.
